INTRODUCTION

Most business executives and professionals these days are regularly called upon to make presentations to a variety of audiences, for a variety of reasons. The pressure on them to give a “polished performance” is increasing, making it even more vital for them to develop their ability to make presentations.
This 2-day, practical, hands-on course will give you everything you need to know about making more effective presentations and speeches.

PROGRAM OUTLINE

DAY 1

Module 1: Types of Presentation
• Purpose and objective of a presentation
• Techniques in crafting types of presentations
• Differentiating the types of presentation
Individual Exercise: Prepare and present a 3 min speech based on work expectations
Class Exercise: Class will evaluate presenter based on a set of criteria and provide feedback

Module 2: Organisation of a Presentation
• Understanding the power of opening
• Making your presentation memorable
• Structuring your presentation for easy retrieving
• Making your presentation go smoothly
Individual Exercise: Participants to review their presentations made in module 1 and incorporate learning points from module 2

Module 3: Ingredients of an Impressive Presentation
• Support materials
• Rhetorical techniques
• Stories and personal experiences
• Humor and drama
Individual Exercise: Participants to review their presentations made in module 1 and incorporate learning points from module 3

Module 4: Overcome Stage Fright
• Therapies to fight fear phobia
• Ways to overcome fear
• Sign and symptoms of fear
• Creating a state of excellence
Individual exercise: Participants to present a 2-3 min ad-hoc presentation based on topics selected by class or scenarios created by facilitator
Class Activity: Participants to discuss stage fright based on ad-hoc presentation and brainstorm ways of overcoming stage fright

 

DAY 2

Module 5: Deliver with Style
• Body language
• Platform manner
• Vocal variety
• Pause with authority
Individual exercise: Participants who had underperformed in this area in Module 1 (as assessed by peers earlier) will have to give a 2 mins summary incorporating learning points from Module 5

Module 6: First Impression, Lasting Impression
• Appearance
• Create impact
• Build rapport
• Eye contact
Individual exercise: Participants who had underperformed in this area in Module 1 (as assessed by peers earlier) will have to give a 2 mins summary incorporating learning points from Module 6

Module 7: Think and Speak Spontaneously
• Think on your feet
• Techniques for impromptu speaking
• Delivering seamlessly and effortlessly
• Understanding the pitfalls and avoid them
Class Activity: One participant will start the ball rolling by giving a ad-hoc speech, selected by the facilitator for 2-3 mins. The next participant will then have to follow through on the same topic from the previous presenter and so on. The facilitator has the option of changing topic midway, thus disrupting
the next participant’s train of thought. This allows them to think on their feet and practice impromptu speaking

Module 8: Face to Face with the Audience
• Audience analysis
• Using visual aids
• How to handle difficult audience
• Questions and answers
Individual Exercise: All participants will again present their speech made in module 1 based on learning principle from modules 2-6. They will then conduct a Q & A session and finally provide an audience analysis.
Class activity: Role play – some participants will role play as difficult participants and observe how presenter handles them and provide feedback. All participants will be required to evaluate presenter and provide feedback.
